ISO 9001 Quality Management audit result reflects Kingston Joinery’s commitment to continued improvement

Kingston Joinery has demonstrated its continued commitment – and success - in maintaining the highest levels of performance as it has come through its latest ISO 9001 audit with flying colours.

ISO 9001 is a recognised international standard which specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS) throughout all services areas, equipment, staff, training and facilities.

It is a requirement of the independent annual inspections and audits carried out to ensure standards are being maintained.

Having seen his business expand significantly over the past 18 months, Craig O’Leary, managing director of Kingston Joinery, was delighted to see his company get the green light in each area of the assessment, with no nonconformities highlighted.

The audit involves reviewing every process of the business from initial enquiry to handing over projects to clients, with everything from policies and sustainable procurement procedures to minutes of management review meetings to job roles and descriptions analysed.

The standard aims to ensure businesses are continuously assessing their work and improving as they grow, that they are led by effective senior managers with clear responsibilities set for all employees, all in a positive and efficient working environment.

“We have long been a believer at Kingston Joinery that maintaining and adding to our many industry accreditations are key to our success,” said Mr O’Leary.

“In the construction industry in particular it is of high importance as contactors sourcing specialists look to those with the highest standards of management performance and independent assessment. In that regard ISO 9001 is essential.

“Whilst always something we have placed great importance upon, it can be difficult when a business experiences growth at the rate we have in recent times.

“We have won many contracts worth six and seven figures across the country and of course the focus is on serving them and doing the best job possible.

“At times such as this, it is more important than ever though to ensure you have quality management procedures in place, and that is where ISO 9001 has been invaluable to us. It has ensured we have reassessed and reacted as we have grown and always had systems in place.

“Over the past 18 months, we have recruited experienced and respected industry figures to our senior team including two new site managers, a new contracts manager, window systems estimator and a new business development manager.

“We ensure we have dedicated site supervisors and contracts managers to oversee each job, whilst an office manager is available at all times to deal with any arising issues, through to handover and support from a dedicated aftersales team.

“Given we can indirectly employ between 70-200 joiners on projects across the country at busy times, working on around 20-25 contracts at any one time, we have had to ensure we have strict quality procedures in place.

“The ISO 9001 is all about improving quality and service, delivering on time for customers and having a ‘right first time’ business.

“I truly believe that comes naturally across all of our teams now, and that is why we came through the recent audit with flying colours. It goes hand in hand with what we do.”
