Beacon of Light

Kingston Joinery were selected by Tolent Construction to work on the £18m Beacon of Light community educational and sport development in Sunderland, which was supported by a £2million grant from the Football Foundation.

The development stands close to Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light and the Hilton Garden Inn, for which Kingston Joinery also provided a full joinery fit out in 2016.

The development has been split into four zones of education, health and wellbeing, sport and play, and the world of work and aims to provide ‘world class sporting facilities alongside first class education and training facilities for all’

Our role and expertise

A team from Kingston Joinery spent a total of three months on site ahead of the facility opening to the public in the summer of 2018.

Managing Director Craig O’Leary said: “We were delighted to once again be chosen by Tolent for this work, especially given we have previously worked on their developments including the Hilton Garden Inn. It is obvious that they trust us and have faith in our products and our installation work, which is very pleasing.

“It was clear from the onset that this was a development of the very highest standard, resulting in it being recognised at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards.
